South Burlington High School

Welcome to the South Burlington High School Art Department. The arts are deeply embedded in our daily life, often so obscurely or subtly that we are unaware of their presence. The arts add dimension to the environment we live in and shape our experiences. Students in a comprehensive art education program develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and cooperation skills necessary for success in life. For these reasons and a thousand more, the arts are inseparable from education. South Burlington High School offers a variety of sequential courses to expose students to the aesthetic, creative and intellectual opportunities available by participating in the fine arts: Introductory level courses offer students fundamental skills needed for continuing into the intermediate and advanced courses. Intermediate level courses are directed toward students who would like to specialize their study in drawing, painting or sculpture. Advanced level courses are recommended for highly motivated students wishing to develop personal portfolios and specialize in art. Assignments include in-class exercises, sketchbook work and long-term projects.
